A Consoling Embrace: Prayers for a Time of Pandemic (for Parish and School Sharable only)

May we who are merely inconvenienced
remember those whose lives are at stake.

In these times of pandemic, we are faced with such grief and loss that we often cannot find the words to pray. This collection of 30 prayers opens with the beautiful prayer above, which went viral in the early days of social distancing. Each of these powerful prayers is written with our challenging times in mind, and offers words to accompany the “groaning of our spirits.” The prayers can be used both for private devotion and community worship. They offer to all who read them “a consoling embrace.”

After completing her Ph.D. in Russian literature at UC Berkeley, Cameron Bellm traded academics for the contemplative life, informed by Ignatian spirituality and Catholic social teaching. The Seattle-based writer and her husband have two young sons and she seeks each day to find God in all things, most frequently in Legos and microwaved coffee.
